What he mentioned about the diversity of interests in foot fetishists is interesting. I wish a dedicated foot fetishist could come up with a classification of these sub-interests so we can have a comprehensive understanding of them.
I wonder if there is some hidden logic behind this diversity. What draws someone to arousal from feet being tickled but another to the smell of feet and another to the texture of the soles? How often do all the sub-interests co-occur in the same foot fetishist? Are they even the same sexual phenomenon?
He sure is- the classic definition of a fetishist you could say!
Yes! I think it's a really important distinction in all aspects of sexuality and it's something I explored more in the companion Psychology of Desire: Case File on Foot Fetish Origins mentioned in the article.
The theory of eroticism that I am developing aims to explain how some of these differences occur. I don't think they are the same sexual phenomenon as such, but then we have to get into the definition of sexual phenomenon and where one begins and another ends- a tricky thing to define!
From a relational lens, I was curious to know how Larry’s particular genre of foot fetish began and how it may have benefitted and shaped the intimacy of his partnerships (past and current) — i really enjoyed hearing him talk about how he often sleeps under his partner’s feet, and offers foot massages, almost daily— his fetish feels like a nuanced act of service. The amount of times I’ve spoken to couples about the lack of desired service in their partnership and how that causes major disruption in intimacy — makes me feel like, maybe Larry’s self-proclaimed “perverted nature” is simply his desire to serve and receiving pleasure through providing it. Yes it’s a way he connects to his eroticism AND it also seems like his thread for connection. He gained purpose, attention and praise (in a sense) from providing relief to his mom, and then eventually pleasure as this act of service manifested into more; a necessary aspect for his turn-on.
YES! that's such an astute observation- it did feel poetic, which is such a good description for it, AND so interesting considering some people think it is the opposite of poetic but creepy. Thanks so much for your comment Brianna, I think you summed it up better than I could!
I don't even scarcely have a foot fetish, but I can vibe what he's saying, sort of by proxy. I love the smell of my partner, the smell of a woman's hair, her neck for instance.
He's right, the only reason feet are declared "weird" is that society arbitrarily says so.
But it's not really much odder than enjoying smelling someone's hair. I think the media has relentlessly depicted these poor people as "perverts," as he's saying, and, from the perspective of someone who doesn't share his fetish, I think it's profoundly unfair.
I think this is part of the larger sex-phobia we have here in the Anglosphere world. So much sex shaming goes on and it's unfortunate.
As I discussed in my case file on foot fetish released today I think a lot of the stigma comes from kraft ebbings approach. Before that Binet was speaking about foot fetish with rather positive sexuality vibes. Hopefully through education and stories such as Larry's in the podcast the stigma will reduce.
This is a great episode. It covers everything one could ever ask to know about the subject (and a ton of stuff I've never even thought about, like, say, the wrinkles). This guy is raw, honest, and awesome, generally. I like how secure he is in his sexuality and how he doesn't feel his quirk condemn him to a sexless life in hiding.
I know right! nothing better than someone owning their sexuality and expressing it in a way that is confident and considerate and allows others to do the same. He was truly a pleasure to interview!
I’ve always wondered about this. The foot is particularly abundant in kink/fetish
the most common fetish it seems! You'll love the psychology of desire case file on foot fetish releasing tomorrow!
This guy is very enthusiastic about feet!

It all felt kind of poetic lol.

Yes I 💯 agree with you!
